In the fall of 1985, Astrid Lindgren entered into a debate about Swedish animal husbandry. Together with the veterinarian Kristina Forslund, she wrote several Expressen articles that raised people's awareness of how badly pigs, cows, chickens and other animals were treated in Sweden. The subject was, of course, close to Astrid's heart, peasant girl that she was. The articles were collected in the book My cow wants to have fun.
